The Freeport McMoRan accounting office for our Tenke operations is in Lubumbashi (look right in the very center of this map), a city of just over a million people in the southern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Lubumbashi is several hours away from the mine site in Fungerume. As you can see from the map, Lubumbashi is not far from Zambia. The capital of the DRC is Kansasha or Brazzaville, which is located closer to the Atlantic ocean. The inter-tribal conflicts that have plagued central Africa have occured in the Northeast part of the country...near Rwanda and Uganda. I read that it is against the law to photograph public buildings so I'm not sure how many photos I will get of the city. But I'm sure that I can get some of the office and the hotel.
